The mission of the ELC is to train the next generation of election lawyers through litigation and advocacy that bring novel academic ideas to the practice of election law.

  • The Election Law Clinic offers Harvard Law students the opportunity to do hands-on litigation and advocacy work across a range of election law areas. Reporting to the Faculty Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for performing research functions and the administration of activities, policies, and procedures of the Election Law Clinic.

  • As a Program Coordinator you will:

    Serve as principal source of information on policy and procedure of the Election Law Clinic including clinical operations liaison for ITS and the Clinical/Pro-Bono Office. Build relationships with local and national organizations and coalitions, including HLS student groups.

    Track legal cases for clinic and triage phone/email inquiries regarding the program and ensure follow-up.

    Organize, format and proofread manuscripts, course materials and court filings.

    Provide administrative guidance and assistance including organizing staff meetings, coordinating calendar for Director and other program staff, overseeing paper and electronic files, and coordinating all aspects of travel for students, Director, and/or guests.

    Create and maintain communications platforms including website and social media pages and assist in the creation of an alumni database with outgoing publications from clinic to students and alumni.

    Process financial transactions for the staff, and billing for the program. Assist with the preparation of budget, including tracking and maintaining expenditures.

    May track and manage research assistants and student interns as needed.

  • Three or more years of related experience. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.

  • We are looking for people who have:

    Excellent organizational skills with particular ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    Proven ability to deal with confidential and sensitive material/information in a professional manner and to handle information with discretion, sound judgment and attention to detail

    Knowledge of Harvard resources

    Familiarity with election law and knowledge of legal and academic research procedures

  • The position is for an initial one-year appointment, with the potential for renewal subject to department needs and funding availability.
